Hidden Earth 2018
CUCC Austria Expedition 2018
30 minute Lecture|Mr Ruairidh Macleod
Abstract
This year saw one of the largest and most ambitious expeditions in terms of scale ever launched by CUCC upon the Schwarzmooskogel (SMK) area of the Totes Gebirge in the Austrian Alps in the 42 year history of exploration here. Taking part were a majority of student and young cavers representing many university clubs from across the UK. The presentation will describe the results of the continued findings in the main SMK system (the second largest in Austria and one of few caves both >1km deep and >100km long), new caves that have been discovered this year or last year and are being further pushed, as well as the technical innovations made during the expedition and some other random associated trivia.
