Hidden Earth 2017
GIS and cave Surveying - a possible way forward
60 minute Workshop|Mr Andrew Atkinson
Abstract
GIS and cave-surveying are converging. Cavers would like to know how the caves relate to the land and geology around, and for this the rest of the world uses GIS, is it time for cavers to do the same? This is a discussion/workshop to find out what is already possible, and what could be done if some software got sorted. Please come along if you know about GIS, Cave Surveying or have needs for combining cave survey and other spatial data. This will be a very informal session. Bring demos if you have them.
Things to discuss:
Data transfer formats
Cave archaeology/Cave Science
Integrating TDMs with surveys
1m TDM entrance analysis (Julian Todd/Mark Shinwell)
This will hopefully develop into an advanced cave-surveying workshop weekend sometime this year, to develop the ideas further
