45 minute Lecture|Sophie Hodson

Abstract
What’s underground in the South East, other than the tube network? Prepare to be amazed! There is a rich history of mining materials to build up some of the England’s most iconic buildings. Come to this South East Round Up to explore the Wealden District and the current activities of the Wealden Cave and Mine Society, based in Surrey. Highlights include the sand mines, hearthstone and firestone mines plus an overview of the newsworthy Godstone ‘sinkhole’ which developed in February 2025.
