An auSUSSpicious return to Crete: Gourgouthakas-Liontari 2025
30 minute Lecture|Michael Holliday & Toby Wheatcroft
Abstract
This August, a new generation of Sheffield University Speleological Society returned to Crete for the Gourgouthakas-Liontari 2025 expedition in the Lefka Ori mountains.
Trying their best to live up to a formidable local reputation, and attempting desperately not to get sunburnt: the group bolted and resurveyed a 402m deep cave; carried dive bottles to 1100m; and crashed a drone into the mountain.
The talk will give an overview of the Greek expediton, focusing on SUSS's involvement.
