Hidden Earth 2025
Gower's newest cave, Ogof New Park. A 2024 film of its discovery and a science report.
60 minute Film|Andy Freem
Abstract
Until 2024, there had been very limited success in following the underground drainage of North Gower. Only a small number of caves had been found, with very little length and indications that further accessible passages exist. The digging and subsequent exploration of 1/2 km. of Ogof New Park's characterful and challenging passages all took place last year. The 40 minute video has already been shown to several local village communities and has greatly enhanced the respect for cave exploration in Gower. It presents the story of these events, filmed as they happened.
The cave's characteristics are quite unlike any other Gower cave. They raise many developmental questions but have already greatly increased our knowledge of this local area of karst. After the video will be a short explanatory presentation of the scientific discoveries, particularly focusing on the Gower's geology and the area's glacial margin location during the late Devensian Glacial period.
