Hidden Earth 2025
ICCC Slovenia Expedition - Nova Meja
30 minute Lecture|Thurston Blount
Abstract
Imperial College Caving Club departed for their yearly expedition into System Migovec, Slovenia during June, returning in August. With lots of leads left open the previous year - located over 400m deeper than the current camp - a long discussion lead to the creation of a new camp (Sparkle). Here, a new setup involving hammocks was created to maximise comfort within a large boulder chamber, where a lack of flat space restricted the usage of sleeping bags on roll mats.
With no use for the previous sleeping setup at Sparkle, the camp of last year (Hallelujah) was renewed to act as both an intermediate rest-stop, and an introductory camp for new members. Exploration here focussed on shallower leads within subsystem Primadonna, leading to the rediscovery of Salome Viados, a series of chambers containing 3 chimneys, that had not been seen in almost 20 years. Significant evidence here suggests the potential of a new entrance, showing great promise for discoveries next year.
