Abstract
The Mulu Caves expedition in October 2017 was based at Camp 5 in the idyllic Melinau gorge. The two main objectives were exploration within the extensive Whiterock cave are and a small black dot which had been spotted high on the cliffs of the gorge. Despite being much smaller than many previous Mulu Caves expeditions, with only 8 cavers, over 4km of new passage was surveyed.
In 2018 a small team returned, this time with a more scientific focus, although they could not resist the lure of new passage entirely!
