Flying high in Thung Salaeng Luang National Park, Thailand

Abstract

Four months before the world’s spotlight shone on Thailand’s Tham Luang and the Wild Boars, fifteen Sheptonites and friends were exploring the caves of Thung Salaeng Luang National Park in central Thailand.

The National Park is protected by a seemingly impenetrable cliff of limestone that rises from the plains. Resurgence caves, including Thailand’s longest cave, emerge from the limestone and are often teeming with life.

With over two kilometres of cave surveyed, snakes, tarantulas, forest monks, light aircraft and broken bones, the presentation will covers the highs and lows of Shepton Mallet Caving Club’s fourteenth expedition to Thailand.
